Abandoned Regency Hotel Transformed Into Elegant Seafront Apartments
The Regency era saw the creation of elegant Regency Terraces throughout the UK. Their commanding presence reinforced their status as homes for the upper classes. Sadly many of these architectural gems are today in an ill state of repair.
One such building, a popular roaring 1920s seafront hotel in the coastal town of Worthing, had been left abandoned and unused for almost a decade. A two-year restoration of the Regency-era Mayfield House into 11 luxury apartments has been completed by building and renovation company The Pure Group.Mayfield House opened it’s show house at the weekend and now you too can open the door to reveal the treasures within.
To retain part of the building’s rich history the crumbling original moldings were carefully copied by local restoration experts and recreated following traditional methods, all original fireplaces have been retained and fully restored, the internal stairs have been meticulously re-made using parts saved from the original staircase, while the original chimneys which had been lost have been recreated using local archives.
The apartments have been furnished and decorated to very highest in 21st Century specification. The kitchens benefit from an integrated Neff oven, microwave, glass hob, extractor fan, fridge, freezer, dishwasher, washing machine and tumble dryer. The show apartment is one of 5 apartments that have bespoke Farrow and Ball hand-painted tulipwood kitchens with man-made Carrera Marble stone worktops and dining table.
Off the kitchen is a beautiful Regency balcony allowing you to take full advantage of the uninterrupted sea view.
Most apartments have a decorative open gas fire set in traditional cast iron fireplaces in both the Living Room and Master Bedroom.
To ensure that the original feature windows were not compromised they fitted new hand-made timber double-glazed sliding sash windows. The luxury master bedroom en suite is fully tiled in Porcelenosa tile, has underfloor heating and recessed shelves and feature lighting.
Worthing is located on the South Coast of England and is surrounded by picturesque villages and miles of country-side in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Can can just imagine waking up to the magniciant sea views whilst you relax your balacony soaking in the sea air. This home combines the grandeur of Regency Architecture with the latest modern luxuries only a newly built home can have.
