A few things about pools, styles and shapes

A pool really makes a house seem complete. When you buy a house that already has a pool you don’t spend any time thinking how it was built, how much time it took for it to be ready, who was in charge and who chose the design, the shape and the style. It’s only you face these challenges that you start thinking about all those things. So we decided to put together a mini-guide that will help you distinguish between different types of pools and their shapes.

1. The play pool.

Pool type

A play pool can be easily distinguished thanks to a few clear characteristics. First of all, it’s no deeper than 5 feet. Then there’s also their use. Play pools are generally used for playing water sports, relaxing in and swimming laps.

2. The diving pool.

Pool type

Those that prefer a little more action would probably prefer diving pools. These are generally around 8-1/2 feet deep and they also have a diving board or a platform. These pools should only be built to NSPI and ANSI standards and they should only be used with supervision or by those that are absolutely certain of their swimming and diving capacities.{image from here}.

3. The freeform pool.

Pool type

This is a naturalistic or lagoon-style pool. It can be identified by the rock features that are usually used for this type of pool. People usually consider these their personal oasis, mostly because of the design and shape. They are meant for relaxation but also as landscape details.{image by site}.

4. The geometric pool.

Pool type

Obviously, geometric pools feature straight lines. They are a more traditional type that has started to become popular again. Geometric pools usually have a more formal look and they suited for permanent residences. For a holiday home a more fun type of pool would be nice.{image by here}.

5. The infinity edge pool.

Pool type

This type is also known as negative edge pool or infinity swimming pool. It’s one of the most spectacular types of pools. As you might have deduced from their names, infinity edge pools create the impression that they extend all the way out to the horizon. It’s a style that is becoming more and more popular each. What’s also important about infinity edge pools is that they require an expert to build.

6. A lap pool.

Pool type

Usually, lap pools are narrow and long. They measure over 50’ and they are commonly used for fitness. It’s a type of pool suited for those with health issues or concerns. Given their size and shape, it can be difficult to find the space for a lap pool on a small site so large properties usually include them in their landscape.

7. The perimeter overflow pool.

Pool type

This is another type of pool that can be very spectacular. The shape is irrelevant in this case. The defining feature of perimeter overflow pools is that the water level is the same as the top of the decking. This style is often combined with infinity edge pools and the results are spectacular.

It’s common for multiple elements from these styles to be combined. Hybrid designs are created and they are usually very impressive.
