A furniture collection that tricks the eye

This is a collection that was created by Danish designer Rasmus B. Fex. It is composed of a chair and a table so it’s small and simple. Individually, each of these two pieces also looks very simple in terms of design and structure. But behind this simple look there’s actually a very complex and very long process. The designer started with an iconic chair. It was the standard piece of furniture with a simple design and construction and with no unnecessary details incorporated in the process. But the design has drastically changed along the way.

What started as a standard chair ended up being a unique and highly original piece of furniture. The designer experimented on the chair repeatedly in an effort to eventually create a completely new design. The main goal was to create something that would be both functional and artistic. For Rasmus B. Fex. design is art. It’s why he didn’t give up until he managed to create something sculptural and artistic and yet functional and practical.

The final result of this long and difficult process is this amazing chair. It’s tilted at 9.5 degrees and this allows it to look like it’s crooked when it actually isn’t. The distortion in the design was compensated for by tilting the chair and then elevating one end of the seat back to a straight angle. From that a triangle was created that made the construction stronger and eliminated the need for a cross rod. The table has a design based on the same principle.
