A beautiful extension beach house

This is the Barnacle, a home designed by Brisbane-based firm Built-Environment Practice. It’s a recently completed project. The Barnacle is a beautiful beach house located near the coast in Broken Head, NSW, Australia. It’s not a separate home but an extension of an already existing building. It’s called the barnacle because of its shape and design.

The Barnacle is a 25 square meter extension of a house and it offers beautiful views of the surrounded landscape and the community’s nature reserve. The Barnacle was built on a cluster of inclined columns. The exterior of the extension is designed with copper panels and plywood sheets. The materials generate diverse textures and an intentionally created patch-worked appearance.

The extension also has a lovely terrace that offers panoramic views of the surrounding area. The interior of the Barnacle is surprisingly colorful. The roof has been painted bright green and the same color is visible on the ceiling and part of the walls from the bedroom. The extension has a compact design and shape. It also includes built-in furniture both inside and out. It almost gives you the feeling of camping but without the cold weather and the wet ground. The interior is airy, simple and very relaxing. It’s like a small retreat right there, at home. The large windows provide beautiful views and the inhabitants can also enjoy private moments there.{found ondesignboom}.
