5 Tips For A Cozy Farmhouse Kitchen

Farmhouse kitchens, just like cottage-style kitchens, are particularly cozy, warm and inviting. They have a unique charm that is difficult to describe but that can be recreated with the help of some elements that are specific to this style. We will give 5 such examples but there are also other that you can find by yourself.

1. Classic flooring.

We will start with the flooring and work our way up. Most people think that wooden flooring is a must for this style. It’s true that this is the most common options but there are also other things to choose from. For example, black and white tiles are a classical detail that always looks good. The same goes for checkered linoleum, even though this option is a little more difficult to match with other decors.

2. Cozy fireplace.

Fireplaces are always a beautiful detail. A fireplace in the kitchen would a great starting point for a farmhouse-style décor. It instantly creates a warm and inviting atmosphere and this is what this style is all about. It will be a lovely gathering spot even if you don’t have a working fireplace. You can also induce the impression of a working fireplace by adding an exposed brick wall with a mantel and some decorations around it.

3. Large dining table.

Sleek and small pieces of furniture are typical to modern interiors. For a farmhouse-style kitchen a big table is the best option. It would be nice to have enough space for it but, if not, an expandable table could work as well, although it wouldn’t feel welcoming all the time. In any case, a wood table would be great.

4. Freestanding cabinets

Freestanding furniture pieces are preferable to built0in pieces. Those are suitable for modern and contemporary interiors. It’s true that they take more space but that problem can be easily solved. For example, you can still opt for a built-in cabinet but you need to make sure that it has furniture-style detailing such as bun feet. To make them stand out you can opt for a color that contrasts with the rest of the furniture.

5. Vintage accent features.

Small details are just as important as in any other case. So opt for vintage and old-fashioned elements such as pottery, rustic and antique hardware or vintage lighting. A beautiful chandelier or pendant lamp could really make the difference between an old kitchen and a stylish farmhouse kitchen. The finish and texture are very important in this case.{picture sources:1,2,3,4 and 5}.
