405PF and 406PF chairs by Stefan Diez

Stefan Diez is a German designer that created the 404 chair series. This was a project developed for furniture manufacturer thonet. He first started to work at this collection in 2008 and it was intended to be used as furniture for the fireplace areas in Munich’s English garden. The designer decided to add to the collection two new chair designs, the ‘405 PF’ and ‘406 PF’ padded armchairs. They were similar with the other creations that he already designed.

Actually, the 406 PF is another version of the original 404 F armchair. The designer only made some changes to this particular model. He shortened the legs of the original design and turned it into a comfortable lounge seat. Here’s how a small change can trigger the creation of a whole new design.

The new piece of furniture that resulted from the changes made to the original design features very soft and comfy seat and backrests made from molded plywood. The legs and rear cantilevers are made from laminated wood. This, in combination with the leather or fabric cover creates a very simple and elegant design.

The chair is available in beech, either natural or stained, painted white or finished with a textured lacquer in various colors. This particular armchair design is very versatile and it can be used in the dining room, on the terrace or deck or in public areas like a café or a bar.{found on designboom}
