The museum of modern art from Luxembourg also has a beautiful staircase. It features delicately curved lines and transparent glass guardrails with steep handrails. 9. Combine Materials for a Modern Look

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

14. A Bold Steel Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

20. A Luxurious Marble Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

Marble staircases are particularly elegant and luxurious. Given the fact that the material is already precious and unique, the staircase doesn’t need an elaborate design in order to stand out. In this case, the minimalist design of the staircase is complemented by the spiked walls.

21. Glass Staircases

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

There’s something about glass staircases that makes them extremely interesting. Glass is a strange material. It seems so transparent and delicate and yet it’s very strong. It’s why glass staircases don’t seem to be safe when they actually are. Being able to see through the stairs and you walk on them gives you a unique sensation.

22. An Impressive Glass Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

The effect is even more strong when you have a floating staircase that connects several levels. A staircase made entirely of glass is a challenging thing to design and build but the results are always impressive.

This spiral staircase is also made of glass and as you reach the top you find a glass bridge. When you’re sitting or walking on that portion the entire lower level reveals itself to you and the sensation is unique. It’s not something that everyone would enjoy but it’s definitely special.

24. A Floating Glass Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

This floating staircase seems even less safe and more fragile than the ones presented so far. It lacks any handrails but it is protected by a transparent glass wall. Yet it’s difficult to feel safe when everything around you is transparent. Still, the sensation of actually floating while you go up the stairs is not something you can recreate.

25. Mix Glass and Steel for a Modern Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

28. An Industrial Staircase Design

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

29. A Staircase with Character

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

30. A Unique Staircase with Fluid Lines

31. A Staircase Suspended On The Exterior Of A Building

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

This is a conceptual staircase and it was a creation of architects Sabina Lang and Daniel Baumann. It doesn’t impress with its design or little details but will its location. A staircase suspended on the exterior of a building is not exactly something you expect to see.

32. A Hidden Staircase

staircase design ideas A Hidden Staircase

Many individuals today find staircases to be a bit of an eyesore in their property. However, with this hidden staircase design, you won’t find this to be an issue any longer. The white oval entryway looks like a portal into another world, creating an adventure for anyone who enters the staircase. You barely notice the white design of the structure as it disappears into the ceiling above. This is the type of feature you would expect to see in a modern art gallery or contemporary home today.

33. An Obscure Traditional Staircase

staircase design ideas An Obscure Traditional Staircase

When you think of spiral staircases, you probably just think about modern spiral designs. In the Musée Gustave Moreau in Paris, you’ll find this incredible set of spiral stairs. Instead of having the typical spiral design, it offers twists and turns that add more character to the building. Spiral stairs aren’t just reserved for huge multi-story buildings and look just as good when used as a small passageway between two floors. The grand design with the sturdy handrails and carpets finish off this staircase perfectly.

34. A Sculptural Staircase

staircase design ideas A Sculptural Staircase

This staircase by architect Francesco Librizzi is constructed of platforms and wooden boxes. The whole structure is supported by a black metal framework, and it was added to a property in Sicily during a recent refurbishment. It stretches over two floors and offers access to a roof terrace on the top. It’s an incredible piece of modern architecture, which almost looks like it’s floating off the ground. However, instead of the typical floating staircase designs, we shared earlier, we enjoy the variety that this wooden staircase offers with its different sized sections and platforms.

35. Overlapping Cubes

staircase design ideas Overlapping Cubes

Another fun modern staircase can be seen in this set of stairs by Design + Weld. It offers this home a modern staircase that uses overlapping cubes that allow you to display books and other items. The floating stairs create a modern look, and we think the black design would look great in any modern and minimalistic home such as this one. It’s another great example of using an essential home structure, such as a staircase and transforming it into a versatile storage solution.

All of these staircase designs could help to inspire your next home makeover. While we don’t all have the space that many of these properties and museums offer, you can still find ways to incorporate elements of these designs into any home. Using our staircase for additional storage puts an otherwise wasted space to good use and can be added to almost any home design. The next time you are traveling to new locations, keep an eye out for more inspiration and incredible creative staircase design ideas like the ones we’ve shared today.
