1974 cast-concrete and brick house renovation

This good-looking house can be found in Piedmont, California. It’s not a new construction as you might think but actually a complete remodel of an existing 1974 cast-concrete and brick house. Not much from the original house survived the renovation, hence the structure complete remodel. The original house sat on 7000 sq ft of property and it has been built for a single couple. Since the couple turned into a family the house needed some changes.

The main purpose of the remodel was to make this house suitable for a family and its needs, both in terms of space and design. The new house was designed by Ogrydziak/Prillinger Architects. Several drastic changes had to be made. The main living spaces, the kitchen and the bathrooms have been reconfigured in an effort to maximize the flexibility of the space. The living area opens up to a pool terrace and it’s separated with glass sliding doors.

The kitchen has beautiful oversized folding doors and this allows it become an open space, part of the living area. If the owners want a more formal look, they can just close the doors. Three new bedrooms were also created and added to the house. This way all the members of the family can be satisfied and are able to enjoy their own private space.
